Hello Rob:Thank you very much for getting me back on the road to recovery. I’ve tried, reiki, physical therapy, acupuncture and a host of other healing modalities. Nothing works better than Rolfing. I woke up this morning and the tingling I felt is virtually gone. You are a miracle worker. I only wish I did this sooner. I had this injury since May, if I came to you sooner It wold have been fixed way before July.
I can’t thank you enough for all that you’ve done!
YR, Boulder, CO
Caring, extremely knowledgeable and experienced , listens well, organized time wise – i.e. never late, kind, compassionate compassionate compassionate. Deals very welll with women. non judgemental. i.e. accepting us as we are. I could write paragraphs about this as far as women are concerned. Thank you Rob for being who you are, and being genuine and authentic thru and thru – Elizabeth W. , Boulder CO
Rob is a consummate healing professional; he elevates somatic therapy to an art. He is patient, welcoming, caring, intelligent, intuitive, strong but gentle, and well-informed and adept at his work. Utilizing a variety a sense modalities, attunes to his clients, seeing and hearing them in ways they cannot do so themselves. Rob’s awareness of his clients’ somatic situation is acute and contagious; you will find your awareness, following his lead, penetrating parts of yourself you didn’t know existed. And you will come out of the experience a more complete and integrated human being. –Chad R., Boulder CO
I highly recommend Rob if you are looking to treat and most importantly fix chronic pain. I have had chronic lower back pain for 5 years and have tried every treatment available (except surgery), and nothing has worked. After three sessions with Rob, I am already feeling more mobility, less pain, and my overall alignment has improve significantly. My quality of life has improved drastically. Rob’s knowledge of the body and how everything works together, and his ability to recognize the root cause of your pain, is amazing. I just wish I knew him years ago before I went through all the other standard treatments that doctors recommend/prescribe. Thanks so much Rob! –Tina W., Broomfield CO
Robert McWilliams is an amazingly skilled ,compassionate and excellent Master Rolfer. Rolfing not only feels exquisitely good, it has freed me from chronic low back pain. What a relief . Another result of multiple sessions is that Robert has taught me to move more freely and efficiently. I cannot recommend Robert enough, because he has helped change my life . I have this deep internal physical and emotional sense of “before and after ” where the “after ” feels like a new lease on life. After completing the series, I still get Rolfed because it feels so darn good and there are continuing benefits. Robert has my highest recommendations.– Elizabeth P., Airline CaptainYou quite literally unlocked something in my hip joint. After doing deep work something released that I didn’t fully understand. You said, “Let me move your leg in this direction.” I thought – OK, sure. As you started the movement again you repeated your words,”Let go and let ME move your leg through this whole range of movement.” I said, “I am.”I most definitely was not. When I let go and let you move it I realized I was stopping the movement at the old sticking spot. On your third go, I finally let go and let you move me. The habitual sticking spot was gone. No pain caught me there and I didn’t have to “go around” that spot. It was profound to feel a habitual pattern at the body and joint level. Now that we are working on releasing the entire pelvis and rib area, I can relate that moment to everything that happens on your table. I can relate it to my life in areas of my inner work and my spiritual work as well. My mind tricks me into thinking if I hold on then I can protect myself from pain. When in reality the opposite is true. Ease and flow comes from release and letting go.My willingness and strength to move into the depths of anything must involve letting go on the deepest level imaginable. Working with you has increased my imagination in this regard. Just when I think I have let go and I am allowing myself the freedom of movement that will unlock my inner beauty, I can trust my body wisdom to let go and release just a bit more.Feeling better in my movement through life is essential for my wellbeing. Thank you!–Eileen H.
I have increased seeing Rob, from 1 to 2 therapy sessions – per month over the last 8 months. I have yet to leave with the pain I was experiencing on arrival! I walk with a cane due to my multiple back, feet, knee, neck and shoulder injuries. As I leave, I notice, I feel MUCH taller and am able to take more normal strides.
I would highly recommend Rob, for his abilities and his altruistic presentation and follow through. He really does care, and if causing additional pain during the treatment will attempt to devise an alternate maneuver that will alleviate the discomfort.–Jeanne A., OKC, OK
Rob is a magic worker.
I’m a climber, runner, I sit at a desk all day and have an allergy to yoga and stretching. Over time this combination compounded, leaving my body imbalanced, super stiff and achy, and injury prone. After years of experimenting with massage and chiropractic care to help alleviate my aches and pains, I decided I needed a longer term solution.
I did a Ten Series with Rob, and around session 3 I noticed a significant difference… and this is coming from a skeptic. Not only was my body more at ease, I felt stronger and movement was significantly easier. Climbing transformed for me- moving from choppy, heavy feeling movements to a lighter, more relaxed flow. This is by no means of exaggeration either, I was actually blown away by the amount of improvement I saw in such a short period of time after being at a stalemate for so long.
Since, I’ve seen him for a few one-off appointments and he always hits the nail on the head. Not just alleviating discomfort, but resolving it.
Go for it! You’ll be happy you did. –Kate T., Boulder, CO
Yes I’m quite happy with the results so far. I am walking much better and I am getting relief with the groin pain that I thought I was going to have to have surgery on.–Charles M., Boulder CO
For me, Robert’s greatest skill was being able to integrate everything that was going on into my body into a moving picture of what was causing me problems and pain. After working with him, I felt my past bodywork experiences were helpful but a bit fragmented. Even before my 10th session I was feeling grounded on my skis and symmetrical in my swim stroke. In both I used to have a strong pull to the right, but now I feel an easy balance to my movements. Big Thanks!– BG, Internet Marketing Strategist
Rob is a fantastic Rolfer. He is patient, knowledgeable, and conceptual in his approach to the body and movement. He helped eliminate pain in my ribs and lower back. He simultaneously recognized patterns in my physical behavior that were contributing to this discomfort. He thoughtfully presented these ideas during our session. It was empowering to feel into these patterns and to experience how a change in habitual movement and activity could help me live and gesticulate without discomfort. –Adam O., Boulder, CO
I’ve been worked on by 4 different Rolfers in the past 25 years so I can wholeheartedly recommend Rob. He’s extremely talented and very sincere in his commitment to helping heal what ails you. I have tried multiple chiropractors over the years because finding a local Rolfer can be difficult. Chiropractors may provide temporary pain relief. Rolfers identity and work to heal the problem long-term. It’s more expensive but worth the extra expense if you don’t want to see a chiropractor every week.–Dale G., OKC, OK
I’m a lifetime athlete; having run and cycled for over 35 years. During that time, due to bad habits, including overtraining, I have developed areas of imbalance, tension, and inefficiency. Rob has helped me discover and understand the why of my problems. After each session I notice improvement in performance and recovery. Mostly, I have gained the range of motion and efficiency I remember having twenty years ago. Rob is so intuitive and knowledgeable, he makes Rolfing a great experience. Make an appointment! – Kirk D., OKC, OK
My chiropractor, Dr. A., suggested that I try a rolfing session with Rob McWilliams. After my last rolfing session with you, I felt wonderful. Every time I see Dr. A., we can’t say enough great things about your rolfing technique and the amazing way it makes us feel. I have seen several different rolfers, but none compare to you and your passion for helping people feel their best.
– Ms. J.G., Retired Realtor
After using orthotics in my shoes for the past 15 years, Robert was able to loosen my hips and adjust my feet; I have not used orthotics since. It has been over nine months and my feet still feel great. Ever since, my hips move freely, my neck has less stress and a better curve. Well worth it!– Mardel Hill
Robert is an extraordinarily talented bodyworker – strong, graceful and intuitive. His Rolfing is powerful and it has a long-lasting effect. It feels like years worth of stress and tension have been evaporated, and my body has become younger and more limber. I can honestly say I’ve haven’t felt this good in years!– Brett Borders, Denver Copywriter
I am feeling wonderful since our last session, my body feels so free. I have been dancing a lot more… Rob creatively wove his body awareness gained through his years as a dancer into our Rolfing sessions.”– Deb Matlock, Founder of Wild Rhythms
“This man is an AWESOME bodyworker! Finally, after years of trying many other healing modalities, I have relief from chronic neck and back pain after doing Robert’s 10 sessions of Rolfing. As wonderful as that is, there have been other, unexpected benefits that are also life changing: areas of my body that didn’t communicate well with each other before are now developing a more efficient and fluid way of working together. Besides more range of motion and comfort, I feel more grounded. I also experience a clearer sense of my personal boundaries and an inner self-friendliness that is profound and hard to articulate.”– Kai Hu, Well Being Alignment, Boulder, CO
I swam laps today for the first time in a while. My right shoulder which is usually tight didn’t get sore at all and I have much better range of motion. Even more notable is the amount of space in my chest. I can fill the top of my lungs twice as much. Ah!– Chris C., Stay-At-Home Mom, after Session #7
My experience in Rolfing can be described at three levels:
At the simplest level, I can now turn my neck more fully when I back up – so my driving is a little safer. I not only feel taller but I am-or others have shrunk because I now am able to look down on the top of a few heads.which used to match mine . I am now very aware this additional height comes from the lower pelvi s and upper legs. I am more flexible- especially in the back and chest. This feels wonderful.
I’m not sure what is cause and what is effect, but at the psychological I have also become more flexible. I am moving, getting things out of storage and making changes I had long put off.
Now at a third level. Last weekend a saw the film Breath Made Visible, a documentary about the dancer Anna Halprin. I would not have understood it at a body level before. However, I now appreciate and share at least some ot the movement joy she expressed. She is 86 – but I am 76.– JRA, physician
Rob commands an impressive array of skills as a bodyworker, not the least of which is his sense of humor. He combines a solid knowledge of anatomy, a profound visceral understanding of movement, and the wisdom to follow his well-honed intuition. As a classical singer, I found that Rob’s background as a dancer made him unusually effective at addressing my very specific goals while never losing sight of the integrity of the whole. I would recommend Rob’s work to anyone who is looking for a new understanding and experience of movement in their bodies.– Laura K., Professional Opera Singer and Vocal Coach
After several months of working with Rob I have felt more integrated overall and more aware of my body in space. Rob’s many years of experience as a dancer and healer make him one of the wisest body workers I have encountered!– Jilba W., Psychotherapist
Last year I suffered a foot injury and hip pointer in training for The Bolder Boulder 10k race, which I run every year. These injuries prevented me from training at the level I was accustomed to. I needed help from a specialist…and after just one structural integration session with Rob, both conditions had remarkably improved. It was like magic! I went on the have a successful race. I would recommend Rob a thousand fold.– Ernie Port, NSCA Personal Trainer, www.GetFitBoulder.com
Robert brought a depth of presence and skill in helping me restore range and function to my post-op feet. He also went the extra mile to figure out creative ways for me to work on my re-hab at home. He is a pleasure to work with.– Judith A., Relationship Therapist and Workshop Facilitator
I asked some clients for feedback on five qualities that they liked in my work:
–5 Qualities I like about your work
1) How you use a variety of tools in order to coach movement (e.g. accordion action to expanding the rib cage)
2) Calm and welcoming attitude
3) Creativity in finding ways to get something to change
4) Knowledge and experience with moving yourself translates well
5) The actual space where you practice is peaceful and inviting
- Your intuition…I always appreciated how you sensed what you were going to do in each session based on how I was feeling and what your intuition was telling you.
- Your compassion…You were understanding of my story and my pain without judgment.
- Your knowledge…You have a wealth of knowledge in so many areas. It was particularly helpful that you understand trauma in the body.
- You always asked… I always really appreciated that you would ask if it was okay for you to work on a particular area before you did. That’s so important.
- Comparison…It was so helpful for me when you would have me compare how my body felt after you worked on a certain area.
I still have my half-off birthday session that I’m definitely going to use, so I’ll see you in the future!
You have an amazing ability to scan someone ‘s body visually and then zone in and find the sore spot perfectly with your hands. . It’s an uncanny intuitive educated skill.
You know how to apply the right amount of pressure so that the work is very deep and restorative or healing without being painful.
Your base knowledge of the body through dance and years of Rolfing and teaching has made you into a compassionate , expert Master of your skill. I’d like to emphasize the word Master, which I don’t use lightly. It takes someone 10,000 hours to become a true master and years of focused practice. So I appreciate your skill level.
I like that your practice is quiet and relaxing and that the client can just feel the work and benefit from the endorphin response.
You educate the client to move more efficiently.
Quality. Ability to find the perfect spot to release the facia so that the entire body can release.
Quality. I think you care.
One more. Quality. Healer. You helped heal my back from chronic pain to no pain. Healed now for about 4 years and still feeling benefits. Still grateful too.
In no particular order :
- a) You listen to me, and you follow through on whatever I have highlighted as concerns.
- b) You never rush. You do your thing, look at my body’s response, and do more if needed.
- c) You are non-judgmental about the purpose of my visits. Many would judge me on my enjoyment of shooting sports, but I always feel that your major concern is the optimization of my body for my purposes.
- d) Sometimes your work is uncomfortable to me, but I always feel that I can cry “uncle” if needed, knowing that you will understand why I am whining.
- e) You are nice to chat with, sharing personal stuff when appropriate, but never dominating the discussion. Spending time with you feels like being with a friend.
See you soon!

- Your passion for Rolfing and your enthusiasm to continue learning!! I love it when you mention classes you’ve been to recently or new methods to try.
- Your ability to think through an injury issue and come up with a logical reason for what’s different to have caused this particular injury. A focus on the root cause, not just easing the pain.
- Your explanations of what you’re doing and why. Just the right amount for me.
- How I feel completely comfortable in underwear in your presence.
- How you engage me in the movement. Like having me flex my foot several times while you’re working a spot. Or when I sit on the stool and bend over and round up. The combination of you working on me and me moving a specific area a particular way always seems to be especially effective.
I’m taking some time off of training after Boston, but I qualified again for next year and am looking forward to getting back to running soon. Thanks for all your work keeping me in marathon shape!
–Qualities I love about your work
- It is effective, I experience immediate marked improvement in issues or barriers to movement, for example frozen shoulder, foot pain, etc. I have often experienced complete resolution of a painful issue, movement barrier or functional limitation after a session.
- I feel totally accepted and I often laugh, I enjoy the sessions. I feel a high degree of trust for Robert McWilliams, based on my experience with him.
- The exercise you gave me for the immobility/soreness in my lower back really works and it only takes about 5 seconds a day.
- There is a sense of flow and collaboration in the sessions, it is something we create together somehow…your curiosity, my responses, my life as it is summed up in my body, and your….ability to work with it.
OK I have to go now…I might think of one more later.
